In Greece, gyros are traditionally made from pork. Outside of Greece, they’re usually made with beef, veal, or most commonly, lamb. Based on the authentic Greek gyro, it was very fitting to use our Beef & Pork dog as the foundation to this recipe, then season appropriately.

It was important to us that this Brooklyn Hot Dog Company Gyro Dogstill tasted like a hot dog but had the flavor palette of an authentic gyro. To achieve this we turned to the use of parsley, oregano, thyme, and garlic, in addition to the sea salt, coriander, and paprika, that we already use in our Beef & Pork recipe. The result is a subtle Mediterranean profile married to a quintessential New York dog.

BROILING
Preheat broiler. Place broiler pan 3-4 inches away from heat source. Broil approximately 4-6 minutes, total cooking time. Score franks 3-4 times to optimize cooking. Consult Cooking ABC’s for more information on cooking times.

Preheat grill. Cook on low to medium heat for approximately 4-6 minutes, total cooking time. Score franks 3-4 times to optimize cooking. Consult Cooking ABC’s for more information on cooking times.
